One killed as kidnappers abduct pregnant woman, five others

The six victims were kidnapped within a week in the Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the State.
At least six persons, including a pregnant woman, were kidnapped after a clutch of gunmen invaded a community in Nigeria’s oil-rich Delta State.

The six victims were kidnapped within a week in the Ogwashi-Uku community, Aniocha South Local Government Area of the State.

According to Punch, out of the six, one person Mr Welfred Ifeanyichukwu, who was abducted along with his pregnant wife was killed, while three were released after huge ransoms were paid to the abductors.

The incident has has created tension and uncertainty in the Ogwashi-Uku community.

“My brother, what we are passing through in Ogwashi-Uku community is hell, it’s now a dangerous zone as over six persons were kidnapped within six days.

“One of our brothers Ogochukwu Welfred Ifeanyichukwu was kidnapped and killed on December 23, 2024 and took his pregnant wife away, but was released after three days with a ransom of N10 million.

“Between December 23 to January 2, 2025, six persons have been kidnapped in Ogwashi-Uku.

“Three have been released with the ransom, while two are still in captivity, we don’t know their fate as of today. There is apprehension in the community as I speak now. No security in the community lives and property are safe.”

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe said, “I am not aware of any development like this.

“Maybe the victims didn’t report. Till now no report. So much rumour can’t be confirmed.”
