Barely hours after President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babagana Zulum promised adequate security for farmers in their independence messages, Boko Haram terrorists struck again, slaughtering five farmers in Ngoshe Community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a report by the Vanguard, the terrorists abducted 15 farmers, including children, women, young and elderly individuals, and later killed five of them, including Isa Musa Moh’d Diyara, Doglas, Salawuddin Suleman Dauda Lawan, Maryam Gwambran, Matan Kaka Mobil Aga, and Baba Amos. A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Jubril Zarana, was also killed while defending his people.

“We sorrowfully announce the abduction of about 15 farmers… by Boko Haram terrorists in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA,” a source stated. “The attack also resulted in the death of CJTF member, Jubril Zarana, and five other civilians. The terrorists ambushed the farmers while they were busy on their farms.”

Despite efforts by security agents to protect the people, they were unable to hold off the terrorists for long. The Boko Haram militants later released three women captives, who revealed that the other victims were being held hostage, including Anna Andrew Gadzawaga, Hauwa Braga, and two unidentified boys.

This devastating attack comes as a stark reminder of the ongoing insecurity and humanitarian crisis in Borno State. “It is an Independence Day, a day of celebration of freedom, human rights, progress, and unity, but for our people, it’s a day of sorrow, despair, helplessness, and total dilemma,” the source lamented.

The community is calling for prayers and support as they face this helpless situation. “Our people are severely suffering due to lack of essential life supports, but they have chosen to remain in their fatherland because of the love they have for it.”
