A man recently shared his harrowing experience after escaping from a gang of kidnappers in Rivers State. During a press briefing by the police, the victim recounted how he was abducted while traveling from Warri to Port Harcourt.

In a video that was shared by SYMFONI TV, he explained that the kidnappers forced him at gunpoint to abandon his car and ride with them on a motorcycle deep into a community. They blindfolded him with his own singlet and took him to an uncompleted building before transferring him to a detention camp hidden in a bush, surrounded by a river.

At one point, the victim saw the faces of his captors. However, a chilling encounter followed. “That man, whose dead body you’re seeing, came and said, ‘Why is this man looking at your faces? Blindfold him and take him inside,’” the victim said.

He described the unbearable conditions in the camp, including being tied up and attacked by swarms of mosquitoes. Fearing for his life, he decided to escape at midnight. He managed to loosen his bindings, break free through a window, and swim in a river for over two hours before reaching safety at a church.

The kidnappers, realizing he had escaped, tried to track him, but he hid in cassava fields and evaded capture. Despite their efforts, the victim eventually found his way to a major road.

The victim revealed that the kidnappers didn’t demand a ransom but checked his bank account balance and confiscated his car as a “guarantee.” Thanks to his bravery and the help of the Ahoda Area Police Command, where he reported the case after he escaped. The police helped to recover his vehicle, and the kidnappers have been apprehended.
