In a significant breakthrough, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested a prominent Lagos socialite and wanted drug kingpin, 61-year-old Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, on January 1, 2025. The arrest took place at her mansion in the Okota area of Lagos, following the interception of a truckload of illicit drugs linked to her.
According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Alhaja Elediye, who is infamously known in the drug underworld as “Iya Ruka” and referred to as Alhaja Ajoke in social circles, had successfully concealed her true identity for years. She had remained on the NDLEA’s wanted list for her role in leading one of the major drug cartels operating out of the Mushin area of Lagos.
“The veil of invincibility was lifted on January 1, 2025, when NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, intercepted a white Isuzu truck. The truck, driven by 41-year-old Abideen Adio, one of Elediye’s staff, was found carrying 44 jumbo sacks containing 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis,” Babafemi disclosed.
Following the seizure, NDLEA agents proceeded to her residence at 33 Adebayo Oyewole Street, off Ago Palace Way, Okota, where she was apprehended.
While Alhaja Elediye is publicly known as a businesswoman importing fabrics and shoes from China, Babafemi revealed that her legitimate trade masked a substantial illegal drug operation. Additionally, she holds the title of Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, an influential association of society women in Lagos.
