Bishop David Oyedepo, the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has cautioned believers about the power of their words, emphasizing that angels are constantly listening and ready to act on their declarations.

Speaking during the church’s Midweek Communion Service, he warned that careless speech can attract divine consequences, referencing Ecclesiastes 5:6.

“Again, suffer not your mouth to cause your flesh to sin,” he quoted. “See that before an angel waiting on you, that was an error. Why should God be angry with you and destroy the works of your hands?”

Bishop Oyedepo explained that words carry spiritual authority and that angels respond accordingly. Using Nigeria as an example, he warned against speaking negatively about one’s future. “No one can succeed in Nigeria,” some people say. But the angel assigned to them responds, ‘I’m responsible to ensure you don’t succeed.’ Their job is to act on what you say,” he said.

He further illustrated how careless words can shape one’s reality. “If a person declares, ‘Success, run away from here, I don’t need you,’ or says, ‘With the present status of the Naira, there is no future for anybody in Nigeria,’ the angel says, ‘I’ve heard you. No future for you at all,’ and ensures those words come to pass.”

The bishop repeatedly urged believers to be mindful of their confessions, saying, “Be careful what you say. ‘I’m done, I’m finished’—be careful what you say! Angels are waiting on you to carry out your commandments. Whatever you say is a command to them. Angels don’t hear ‘come’—they only hear ‘go.’”

He concluded by urging believers to speak life, success, and progress, as their words determine their destiny.
