Jet Set Club is located in the popular Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and the disaster has quickly become one of the Dominican Republic’s deadliest tragedies in decades.
The death toll from the incident has reached a staggering 218 dead and with 189 people being rescued from the wreckage so far. Hundreds of people were inside the Jet Set nightclub in the early hours of Tuesday morning when the roof collapsed midway through a live performance.
Rescue effort
Multiple celebs including a famous singer and athletes were killed in the tragedyEmergency and rescue crews have been working tirelessly for signs of life in the wreckage.

One worker has revealed: “The past two days have been difficult because when people are trapped, you’re not feeling well mentally.”
The horrific collapse occurred while the artist Rubby Pérez and his orchestra were performing in the nightclub. The artist’s body was recovered from the wreckage on Wednesday.
Also among the dead were two former major league baseball players. The former major league baseball player Octavio Dotel was recovered from the rubble, however, died on the way to the hospital.
Alongside Dotel, the former baseball player Tony Blanco also died after the collapse.
The Dominican Sports Ministry has released a statement expressing its condolences to the victim’s family.

Multiple videos were taken moments before the horror unfolded, showing the dancefloor packed with partygoers before the disaster.
Several videos of the shocking moment have been filling social media since the incident was confirmed, and one shows how parts of the roof were clearly causing concern for those in the club as they were seen escaping from the dance floor with worried looks on their faces as they looked up at the roof.

It was also confirmed that eight hospitals were put on red alert as those injured in the collapse were taken there including the Cuban, Royal, Modern and UCE medical centres. The search for survivors is still ongoing.
Officials have announced it is still too early to determine why the roof fell. The country’s government has moved to the recovery phase focused on finding bodies and attaining information on victims to inform their loved ones of their condition.
