Matawalle issued this warning during an assessment visit to Gundumi village, Isa, and Sabon Birni local government areas of Sokoto State, on Thursday.

The minister expressed sadness at the desolate state of the village, which was once bustling with business activities. “This place used to be lively with a lot of business activities. I assure you it will bounce back. We are going to cite a military base here,” Matawalle said, offering a glimmer of hope for the community’s revival.

However, his tone turned stern as he addressed the issue of banditry. “But you must fear God. Those who have been calling and informing bandits about the movement of security operatives and also about their brothers should desist henceforth. You better repent or we send you back to your creator,” Matawalle warned.

This warning comes on the heels of the launch of “Operation Fansan Yamma” by the military, where Matawalle called for public support. “The fight is not for Matawalle, Federal, state and security agencies alone. It’s for all Nigerians that wish this country well,” he emphasized.

Matawalle also highlighted the crucial role journalists play in combating banditry. “Therefore, journalists have a greater role to play because we know the bandits have been flooding social media platforms with all sorts of propaganda. Our media houses must continue to report successes recorded by our gallant military in the fight against banditry and insurgency.”

He cited recent military successes, including the neutralization of notorious bandits’ kingpin, Halidu Sububu, who was the major supplier of arms and ammunition to the bandits. “Just recently, the military dealt a big blow to the miscreants by neutralizing… Halidu Sububu… And there were others kingpins who were sent to early graves too,” Matawalle said.
