The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, in charge of Zone 14 Headquarters, Katsina, comprising Katsina and Kaduna states police commands, AIG BASIL IDEGWU on December 4th received newly elected executive members of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Katsina Branch, in his office, who were on a courtesy visit.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Katsina Branch, Barrister Shafi’u Umar, Esq., stated that they were in the AIG’s office to introduce themselves and to seek for synergy and cooperation of the police with the NBA. He added that the police are critical stakeholders of the NBA in the administration of criminal justice system in the state. He thereby call for the support of the AIG in the performance of their duties as lawyers. The Chairman lamented that some members of the society see lawyers as some group of people that assist criminals escape judgement or punishment of the law. But he refuted the view as untrue. Adding that the function of lawyers is the promotion of rule of law.
The AIG, welcomed and congratulated the newly elected members of the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Katsina Branch for their election as the new exco. He stated that the Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Bar Association are mutual partners, one in need of the other. He stated that the police, courts and prisons are critical stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice system in Nigeria. And their function is to promote the rule of law. He added that on daily basis lawyers are interacting with the police at various police formations with a view to ensure justice, equity and fairness. The two must be seen to be working mutually in partnership and synergy. The AIG assured them of his unflinching support any time the need arises.
